How does the ebola virus spread?
Humans don't know yet what is the real source of the virus is. Initially we thought that the virus came from animals but we now know that the bats, rats and chimps are all just victims of the virus as we are. With that being said, most of what we know is how you can catch the virus from someone or something else.
Through Contact
Ebola spreads by direct contact so the virus particles actually have to get into the victims body. This can happen by getting the virus transmitted through cuts, mucus, sweat, breast milk, semen everything else that comes out of a human body. The virus can also be spread from the contact of an animal that has the virus. This includes eating the animal's meat, drinking its milk and everything else that applies from human to human transmission..
Restrictions to the Spread
There is good news, it doesn't appear that Ebola is mosquito borne which means if a mosquito sucks blood from an infected person and then sucks blood from a healthy person the healthy person would not get sick. Also the virus is neither water-borne nor airborne. Just keep in mind that it is not airborne in the meaning that the germs have been aerosolized so when small particles of the virus are suspended in air and you breathe them in there is no problem but the problem does arise if someone sneezes or coughs the virus out and you breathe that in.
As you can see there are many ways for the Ebola virus to spread, making it very easy to start an epidemic. |
